Sauna towel basics
Choose a sauna towel by the job you want it to do, its dimensions, actual fabric composition and care instructions. You may want a sitting surface, fabric for wrapping, a drying towel or more than one item. Follow the venue’s rules rather than assuming one material or weave is required everywhere.
Fabric: cotton, bamboo, linen or microfibre?
The label is more useful than a marketing nickname. Halsa sells 100% cotton; other towels may use linen, rayon, synthetic fibers or blends. Compare the actual item’s intended use and care rather than assuming every example of a fabric behaves identically.

The FTC’s bamboo textile guidance distinguishes actual bamboo fiber from rayon or viscose made from bamboo. That helps you read labels accurately; it does not establish which towel performs best in a sauna.
We do not claim that all synthetic towels melt or release fumes during sauna use, or that a natural fiber makes heat exposure safe. Follow the manufacturer’s and venue’s instructions and keep towels away from heaters and heated stones.
Waffle vs. terry weave
Halsa’s towel has a raised waffle texture. Compare genuine photos and the stated construction with the feel you prefer; texture can be a reason to choose an item without claiming a measured performance advantage. This guide does not rank all waffle towels above all terry towels.
Drying, absorbency and packing comparisons need the details of the actual items and conditions. Halsa does not present a controlled head-to-head test here. A bath towel may suit a permitted use if its size and instructions fit your needs.
What size do you need?

For bench coverage, measure the area you want covered. For wrapping, compare both dimensions with your preferred body coverage. A label such as “sauna sheet” or “body wrap” does not guarantee a fit for every bench or person.
The Halsa Cotton Sauna Towel is 80 × 145 cm. Use that measurement to decide whether it suits the space you need, rather than assuming it covers a whole bench or wraps every adult. If you want a personal sitting mat instead, compare the smaller wool sauna seat pad.
GSM and product features
Halsa lists its waffle towel at 380 GSM. Treat the fabric-weight specification as one detail alongside dimensions, construction and care; it is not a heat-safety rating or proof of an ideal range for everyone. We do not promise a drying time or absorbency result from that number alone.
Useful details to check include a hanging loop, finished hems, the texture shown in photos and the washing instructions. The Halsa waffle sauna towel includes a loop, finished hems and an embroidered logo. These are listed features, not evidence of a fixed service life.
How to care for the Halsa cotton towel
The listed instructions call for washing before first use, cold machine washing with like colors and low-temperature tumble drying or line drying. Skip fabric softener as directed. Other towels may have different care requirements, so follow the instructions for the item you own.
Allow full drying before storage and use a suitable hanging location when needed. We do not guarantee it will dry in every break between rounds or promise a fixed shrinkage percentage. Keep your towel routine separate from the wool seat pad’s hand-care instructions.

Should I sit on a towel in a sauna?
Follow the venue’s rules about towel use and placement. Choose an item that fits the space and keep it clean according to its instructions. A towel is not a guarantee against burns, overheating or infection.
Do I need a separate towel for drying off?
Decide by venue hygiene rules and your own routine. You may prefer a separate clean drying towel, but there is no ideal number for every user established in this guide.
Is bamboo better than cotton?

Can I use a microfibre towel?

Do I need both a towel and a sauna bench pad?
