Frequently Asked Questions

Sauna Hats

Everything you need to know about wool sauna hats — what they do, how to use them, and how to pick the right one.

What does a sauna hat do?
A sauna hat insulates your head from the intense heat near the ceiling of a sauna. Heat rises, so your head and ears get the hottest air in the room. A wool sauna hat keeps your head 15–25°F cooler than the surrounding air, which means you can stay in longer, avoid dizziness, and get more benefit from every session. It also protects your hair from drying out and becoming brittle.
Do I need a sauna hat for an infrared sauna?
Yes — a sauna hat helps in infrared saunas too. While the air temperature is lower (110–135°F), infrared panels emit direct heat that warms your head over longer sessions. A wool hat regulates your head temperature, protects your hair, and many users find they can comfortably stay in 10–15 minutes longer with one. Read our full comparison of infrared vs traditional saunas.
What material is best for a sauna hat?
100% natural wool or wool felt. Wool is heat-resistant, breathable, moisture-wicking, and naturally antibacterial — ideal for hot, humid environments. Avoid cotton (loses insulation when wet), polyester (traps heat and can off-gas at high temperatures), and synthetic blends with unknown fiber content. All Halsa sauna hats are made from 100% natural wool or wool felt.
Does a sauna hat protect your hair?
Absolutely. Extreme sauna heat strips natural oils from your hair, leading to dryness, brittleness, and split ends — especially damaging for color-treated or chemically processed hair. A wool sauna hat creates a protective barrier between the hot air and your hair, significantly reducing direct thermal damage.
What's the difference between wool and felt?
Felt is actually made from wool — it's been compressed and matted into a dense, smooth fabric. A felt sauna hat is thinner, lighter, and dries faster. A standard wool hat is thicker with slightly more insulation. Both work beautifully in the sauna. Felt is great for travel since it packs flat, while thicker wool offers maximum heat protection in very hot sessions. See our full buying guide.
Should I wear my sauna hat wet or dry?
Both work, and it comes down to preference. A dry hat insulates your head from direct heat, keeping the hot air at bay. A hat soaked in cold water actively cools your head through evaporation — great for very hot sessions. If you go wet, re-soak it periodically as it warms up. Try both and see which you prefer.
What size sauna hat do I need?
All Halsa sauna hats are one-size-fits-most. The hat should cover your ears and sit comfortably on your forehead without being too tight. Wool felt naturally has some give and will conform to your head shape over time. If you're between sizes, go bigger for a more relaxed fit.
How do I wash my sauna hat?
Hand wash in cold water with a mild detergent. Reshape while damp and lay flat to dry. Never machine wash, tumble dry, or wring it out — this can shrink or deform the wool. Between uses, hang it in a well-ventilated area to air out. With proper care, a quality wool sauna hat will last for years of regular use.
How do I choose the right sauna hat?
It depends on your priorities. The Bucket Hat is our most popular — a timeless design with great ear coverage. The Foldable Hat is perfect for travel. Looking for a gift? The Viking and Captain hats are fun conversation starters. And our Merino Wool Hat is the softest option for sensitive skin. Read the full buying guide here.

EMF Protection

Common questions about our silver fiber EMF-blocking wearables and how they work.

Do EMF blocking hats really work?
Yes. Halsa EMF products use conductive silver fiber fabric that works as a wearable Faraday cage. The silver threads reflect and absorb electromagnetic radiation before it reaches your body. Our products are tested to block up to 99.9% (45dB at 1 GHz) of EMF radiation from WiFi, 5G, cell towers, and Bluetooth — the same shielding principle used in hospital MRI rooms.
What is silver fiber fabric?
Silver fiber fabric is a textile woven with threads containing real silver bonded to a base fiber. Because silver is highly conductive, the fabric creates a continuous conductive surface that reflects electromagnetic waves — forming a flexible, wearable Faraday shield. It's also naturally antibacterial, odor-resistant, and comfortable against skin.
How do I wash EMF protection clothing?
Hand wash in cold water with a mild, pH-neutral detergent. Avoid bleach, fabric softeners, and harsh chemicals — these degrade the silver fibers and reduce shielding effectiveness over time. Do not machine wash or tumble dry. Lay flat or hang dry in shade.
Does EMF headwear fit all sizes?
All Halsa EMF headwear (beanies, hoods, and caps) is designed as one-size-fits-most. Our bucket hats and sun hats come in two sizes (S/M and L/XL) for a more precise fit. Browse the full EMF collection.
Does the phone sleeve fit all phones?
Our Faraday phone sleeve fits most smartphones, measuring 8 inches tall by 4 inches wide with a drawstring closure. If you have an extra-large phone (like a Max/Ultra model with a thick case), measure first to be sure.
