Coming early October 2026. Pre-order open now.
For the last two years, we’ve been quietly working on something new. Same NordicWool™ felt as our sauna hats. Same obsession with the craft. But for a different part of your sauna ritual: the bench itself.
Today we’re introducing the Halsa Wool Sauna Bench Pad — and opening pre-orders ahead of our first production run this fall.
Why we made a sauna bench pad
If you sauna regularly, you already know: the bench gets hot. Not just warm — genuinely uncomfortable, especially on cedar or thermally modified wood benches after 30-40 minutes of continuous heating. Most sauna-goers we talked to had settled for one of three imperfect solutions:
- A folded gym towel that slides around and gets soaked
- A polyester “spa cushion” that off-gasses in the heat
- Nothing — and cutting sessions short because of the discomfort
None of these are what real sauna cultures — Finnish, Russian, Estonian, Latvian — have used for centuries. What they use is wool felt. Dense, breathable, naturally moisture-wicking. The same material we use in our sauna hats, just cut to a different purpose.
What we built
The Halsa Wool Sauna Bench Pad is 13.5" × 13.5" of dense 10mm NordicWool™ felt — the exact same material as our Bucket, Merino 2-Pack, and every other Halsa sauna hat we make. It has rounded corners so it sits flat on standard bench slats, a built-in hang loop for drying, and a sewn-on HALSA label.
Here’s what it does that a towel or a foam cushion doesn’t:
- Insulates without blocking heat. Wool felt is a thermal buffer — it dampens the bench’s conducted heat while still letting the sauna’s ambient heat reach your skin. You can settle in longer without your legs and lower back feeling scorched.
- Absorbs and wicks sweat. Wool holds up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling wet. That means the pad stays comfortable through a full session and dries fast between rounds.
- Doesn’t off-gas. Synthetic cushions can release VOCs at high sauna temperatures. Wool doesn’t. It’s the material sauna cultures have used forever because it’s naturally safe in extreme heat.
- Portable. At about 12 ounces, it’s light enough to roll up and bring to a public sauna, gym, or spa — something you can’t easily do with a bulky foam cushion.
Works in every kind of sauna
We designed it for traditional Finnish saunas, but wool felt performs the same in an infrared sauna, a steam room, or a Russian banya. If the surface is hot, the pad works. That’s the whole point of the material.
Same craft as our hats. Same NordicWool™.
If you already own a Halsa sauna hat, the bench pad will feel familiar. It’s the same felt density, same texture, same neutral grey. We spent years dialing in NordicWool™ specifically for the demands of sauna heat — and it’s the same material we use here, just shaped for a different job.
If you’re new to Halsa, the short version: NordicWool™ is our premium sauna-grade wool felt. It’s denser and more structured than the thin pressed-felt hats you’ll find on Amazon marketplaces, which is why our hats hold their shape after years of hot sessions rather than collapsing after a few weeks. The bench pad is built to the same standard.
