A 100% wool sauna bench pad, built for real Finnish-style heat. Made by the team at Halsa because towels weren't cutting it.
Why we're making this
Our family has a wood-fired Finnish sauna at our cottage up north. We run it hot — usually around 200°F — and for years we kept using beach towels as bench pads because we didn't know what else to use. But every time we'd sit down, the towel would already be damp from the last person, or ours would soak through mid-session and start feeling clammy against the wood.
Finns have been sitting on wool pads in the sauna for generations. Wool insulates against the hot wood, wicks sweat instead of holding it, and dries between sessions. We couldn't find one we loved in the U.S., so we started making our own.
That's what this is: a compact wool bench pad for people who take their sauna sessions seriously and want the wood to stop being a decision. We're finalizing production now, aiming for a Fall 2026 launch. Join the waitlist above to be first in line.
What it is
A single-person seat pad made from 100% felted wool, sized to cover the main sitting area of a standard sauna bench without taking up the whole thing. Compact enough to fold in half for the gym bag or the sauna cabinet. Includes a wool hanging loop so it dries between sessions.
Why wool (and not just a towel)
- Insulates against hot wood. A 200°F cedar bench is hot enough to be genuinely uncomfortable through a thin towel. Wool has natural air pockets that trap heat and slow transfer to your skin.
- Wicks instead of holds. Wool absorbs moisture into the fiber structure without feeling wet, unlike cotton towels which soak through and stay damp.
- Naturally antibacterial. Wool has natural properties that resist odor and bacterial growth — a big deal in a shared sauna.
- Dries fast between sessions. Hang it on the wool loop and it's ready for your next round.
- Lasts years, not weeks. A quality wool pad will outlast a stack of cheap towels.

Frequently asked questions
When will it actually ship?
We're targeting Fall 2026. Everyone on the waitlist will get an email the moment the product goes live for pre-order, with the specific ship window at that time.
Is joining the waitlist a purchase?
No. Joining the waitlist just puts you first in line for the launch email and any early-access pre-order pricing we run. You're not committing to buy.
Will there be an early-access discount?
Waitlist members will get first access when we launch and any launch-window discounts we run. We'll email you the details when we get closer.
Can I fit two people on one pad?
Not comfortably — it's designed as a compact one-person seat pad at 14" x 14". If you sauna as a couple, you'll want two.
Does it work in an infrared sauna?
Yes, though it's designed primarily for traditional Finnish-style saunas at 175–220°F where the bench heat is the biggest comfort issue. Infrared cabinets don't get the wood as hot, so the pad is less essential — but still useful for hygiene.
How do I clean it?
Hang dry after every session on the wool loop. Spot clean with cool water and a mild wool-safe soap when needed. Never machine wash — hot water and agitation will felt the wool further and shrink it.
Can I pair it with a sauna hat?
That's the whole point. A wool sauna hat protects your scalp and hair; a wool bench pad protects everything else. If you sauna regularly, both are the standard equipment Finns have been using for generations. Browse our sauna hats collection in the meantime.
